New Roof Line

The past two weeks big changes have taken place at the house.  A dormer was removed and the new roof line has been framed in.  This new space will be the 2 older kids bedrooms.  I drive by the house twice a day to check out what has changed.  I was shocked the first day I drove by and saw that half the roof was gone!

Framing or temp support walls, we aren't sure

Viewing this from the outside worried me that the roof line wasn't going to line up

And the Walls Came Tumbling Down

Huge noticeable changes have been happening this week at the house!
The old plaster lathe walls on the second floor of the house came down this week! It's exciting to go to the house each night to see what has happened during the day.

This room will be turned into 2 rooms.  The laundry room and kids bathroom will be here.

So Long Trim

Work on the inside of the house has now started!  All of the woodwork in the house has slowly come down in the last 2 weeks.  We looked at the house yesterday and all of the trim is removed from the house except the from the stairway and they started the removal of the chimney.  The built in cabinet has yet to be removed as well, we are really hoping this comes out nicely and doesn't break.  This coming week walls should be coming down and possibly framing.
Before: this is the kitchen.  Only plumbing on the main floors of the house.

Before: Dining room.  I love the built in cabinet and really hope it comes out in one nice piece!

After: my dad couldn't resist removing the wainscoting from the kitchen walls.

Former main floor bedroom, a bathroom will go here.

My dad has been figuring out the best way to restore all the trim in the house.  After several different strategies and talking with his friends, we think we may have found a solution!  He tried TSP, stripper, vinegar water, and denatured alcohol.  We think the denatured alcohol is the solution!  Now to find the find to wash all of the woodwork in the house with the denatured alcohol!

Winter Wonderland

Snow has finally fallen in MN!  We have enjoyed spending time out on the farm, trying to find the best sledding hill.  We first tested out "poop" hill (the hill from our septic tank), and another day tested out the hill from where the barn foundation was.  Both locations were successful.

Someone finally liked the snow, but wasn't ready to test out sledding.

Farm Photo Shoot

Thanksgiving day we decided to let Kirby, our dog, explore the farm quick since he would be in his kennel all day long.  He loved playing ball, but sometimes got distracted by all the new smells.  While we were there we attempted to get pictures done before the weather turned too cold.  It was spur of the moment and the kids weren't dressed the best.

He was in doggy heaven!
