Good Bye Corn Crib

The old corn crib looked like it was about it fall down any minute, but I think it would of lasted many more years to come.  We decided to knock it down while the big machines were still there.  The yard looks great with it gone, only a few rock piles remain.  I'll post the video of the corn crib coming down also.  Some of the wood from this building is being used by a friend of ours who makes furniture out of reclaimed wood, his site is TJ Brecht Originals.  A friend of mine is using some of the wood to make herself (and me!) some signs for her house.  We also will be keeping the reusable boards for future projects, and the rest will go to the many bonfires we will be having in the future!

Asbestos Man

Jason had to remove the old octopus furnace that took up much of the basement.  I wish we had taken a picture of it, it was HUGE!  The duct work contained asbestos, so Jason did his research, ordered the gear and removed the furnace.  The basement looks so different now!

Asbestos Man, ready to conquer the basement!

All geared up

New Happenings on the Farm

The gas tank was delivered and a new line was run to the house, the new septic system has been installed and old cisterns filled in, corn crib torn down and another shed is down.  Progress is being made!  The inside of the house should be well underway next week!

Playing on the septic supplies, yes they were new never used!

New Toy

Jason got a new toy the other day, a new Kubota tractor!  He spent countless hours researching which tractor to get and it came down to Kubota and John Deere.  The John Deere dealer couldn't give a good enough deal like the Kubota guy did, so we had to go orange instead of green.

Happy Boys!

Jason and Eli, leveling out the ground where the barn foundation used to be.  Eli LOVES riding on the tractor!

Finally my turn to drive it

Grandpa and Nana testing it out.

Every chance Eli gets he hurries into the garage and climbs up on the tractor!  I think we have a future lawn mower!

Barn Foundation

The barn foundation on the property was full of junk and needed to come down.  Mike, the guy putting in our septic system, was able to crush the foundation, bury and level it so we will have a nice grassy slope in the future.  The boulders that made up the foundation were amazing.  They were HUGE and hundreds of them.  A friend of Mike's took some (about 4 truck loads) of them to build a retaining wall and we still have a lot left over.  We will use some for seating/tables around a fire pit and then possibly a retaining wall by the side of the house where the new septic tank is.  The yard already looks so much better!

Life on the Farm

We recently purchased a 100 year old farm.  I'm going to attempt to capture our journey of bringing this old farm house up to date.  The house is very run done, with basically no indoor plumbing, and it hasn't been lived in for about 2 years.  My husband decided to inquire about the property after driving by it probably 100s of times.  We decided to look at it, thinking it would be completely gross and not worth the time and money to renovate it.  Turns out this house was wanting us to buy it!  It was in better shape than we expected, with 13 acres, in city limits and the kids will still go to their current school!  We put in an offer with a letter letting the current owner know that his beloved house wouldn't be torn down but remodeled and to our surprise they countered with a good offer and we accepted.  Here are some pictures of the house and property.  It looks pretty run down but will transform into an amazing property shortly!
